Guacamole of the gods - Ryan C. - Apr 12, 2008
... Algusto has the best guacamole in the world. The chips are pretty damn good, but the salsa and guacamole will blow your mind. The meals are very filling and authentic. That being said, go for the guac, stay for the burritos. ...

Quite possibly the best red chicken mole and sangria I have ever had! A friend and co-worker introduced me to this place because of my love for mexican food and healthy eats. Can't wait to go back again soon! ...

Best Mexican Food and Service! - Angela - May 7, 2009
I can not say enough good things about this restaurant. -the ambiance is very nice, -the servers are happy and friendly, -the food is authentic and out of this world! Their salsa(s) rock and their entrees are reasonable prices. I drove from St. Petersburg beach b/c of all the hype I heard about this place. It is well worth the trip over the bridge! I've been to all the other mexican restaurants in the surrounding area. «

Best Mexican in Tampa Bay - akamonti - May 19, 2009
I love Algusto, we try to go there weekly, but given the economy...it hasn't been the case, however EVERYTHING we have tried have been just DELICIOUS! Their food is nicely put together, healthy, light, fresh, you feel you have just eaten great tasty food, not greasy whatsoever (hard to beat for a Mexican Restaurant). They got ambiance, nice parties, great service and the best mexican food in the Tampa area....we know, 'cause we have tried many others, and they don't compare...

My husband took me here about a month ago and I was impressed. The food was definitely Mexican and not tex-mex. This is the first place I've found in Tampa to match my cravings!! It's a great place to go for lunch, especially for the downtown business crowd...

Favorite restaurant in town, excellent... - Drew - Jul 7, 2008
I'm very familiar with mexican food. I've been to probably hundreds of restaurants across the US and have even tasted authentic mexican on several of my trips to guadalajara in central mexico. Algusto still ranks high on my list. They use only the freshest ingredients that are often hand picked by the owner himself and the recipes are authentic central mexican. The service and food are consistent, delicious and great service every single time. The owner Alberto is extremely friendly and a very hard worker. He cares deeply about the business and about providing great service and great food and it shows. I can't recommend this place enough, one of the best restaurants in south tampa.

Terrific Mexican Restaurant with Authentic... - builderhcd - Mar 16, 2007
I am always delighted when our plans take us to Algusto. What a difference this restaurant has made! We particularly enjoy the Hot and Extra Hot Salsas(!) , guacamole, the Algusto Salads (freshest fruits and vegetables hand selected by the owner) and the posole. Very few restaurants - and no other Mexican restaurants that I know - pay such close attention to serving fresh vegetables. The interior of the restaurant is very unique. We enjoy our meals there and feel as if we have visited with special friends.

the Algusto dip - YUM!! - luckygirl_63 - Jan 5, 2007
I love this restaurant - the food is authentic Mexican and fresh. The owners and staff give great service and really care about the quality of the food and your experience at their restaurant. I eat here with my friends probably 3 or 4 times a month and it NEVER disappoints...

Delicious, Beautiful Presentation - Nov 16, 2007
I've eaten a lot of Mexican food. We've been to most places in Tampa Bay. This restaurant serves by far the freshest, most delicious to date.. My wife and I love the 5-6 varieties of fresh salsa. The plate they bring looks just like the picture in the menu...where do you EVER get what you see on the menu? This place is great! Check it out!

Freshest Mexican food I've tried
By almasy
Algusto's isn't your typical Mexican place. If you like super-fried-tasting Mexican, this 'aint it. That said, I think it's the freshest Mexican food in the area. I'm a vegetarian, and they have a lot of options and are more than happy to make adjustments to menu items to accommodate special needs. The guacamole is so fresh and so tasty, and they also have a salsa menu of six or seven salsas ranging from mild to hot to select from (I highly recommend the hot -- unique flavor, not too spicy but has some bite to it). They offer low-carb menu items and a la carte in addition to great house specialties. Super clean, and the staff is really friendly. I live a half hour away and it's totally worth the trip.Pros: Delicious, fresh, authentic food; friendly, professional staff

This restaurant takes a whole new twist on what you usually expect in Mexican, tastes good and has it's own originality which is cool

This place is a snobby Mexican's dream land.

I went first with some friends and only had a salad because I didn't feel much like eating. Then I went back with my mom and we had some Enchiladas de Mole. Authentic as it gets anywhere outside of Mexico. It was delicious, very close to the real thing. The salsa choices are also amazing! I really like the hot salsa. You can take it home for later for a couple of bucks too. Even the tortilla chips taste similar to the thick, crunchy ones you'd get at a place like Sanborns in Mexico City. We also had the tres leches cake--very very good.

I'm really impressed. I can't wait to go back and try the tomatillo sauce enchilladas and the chile relleno. As far as prices go, they are reasonable and comparable to most any other Mexican restaurant out there.

This is truly fresh mexican food, within a great cozy environment. I love going to Algusto because I don't feel heavy/stuffed when I step out and their food is really fresh and healthy. Highly recommend their fresh guacamole, horchatas (rice water), shredded beef quesadillas and their flan is the best I've ever had! Also Alberto (owner) is always very nice and welcomes us with a smile. They are great all around!

By Chris C.- Bellevue, WA6/23/2008 Best Mexican restaurant in Tampa, HANDS DOWN! They even have the awards to prove it.

I started going to this place about 6 months after they opened. From the first time I went in, I knew this was going to be a place I'd be frequenting.

Best Mexican food, good service, courteous employees, immaculately clean. Only thing negative is the lack of parking (can't really be helped through due to location).

Well look at you, Algusto, dishing out tasty Mexican food just off of downtown Tampa.

Some co-workers and I went for an early dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Our server, who was very nice and helpful, told us that the food is made fresh and as healthy as possible (olive oil, fresh ingredients, etc.). We ordered some guacamole and salsa for our chips. The guacamole wasn't too bad and the creamy looking salsa was very delicious. I had the Mole Enchiladas with Red Mole sauce. I wasn't aware there was another type of Mole sauce, but there is, and it's green mole. My co-workers had the Algusto Roll, which had the green mole and they said it was different at first, but once you started eating it, you really start enjoying it (just because it tastes different from traditional mole). My other co-worker had the Fancy Chimichunga and she gobbled it all up, so it seemed to satisfy.

The ambiance was nice and clean and the prices seemed pretty reasonable. I would for sure check it out if you're downtown!

Superb. Probably the best Mexican restaurant in Tampa...the food is superior at Algusto. Everything is great here, from the horchata and Mexican Hot Chocolate to the mole enchiladas. Give it a chance!tina Escobar Gonzalez wrote

It is the best! I wish it was in St. Pete. I would be there every weekend if it was here. I joke with my husband about working a part time there b/c I want the secrets and recipe from the chef

The first time I came to Algusto, I ordered the red enchiladas. It was my dish of choice until one day I happened to sample the bean burritos. I now alternate between the two. Rice Water is my drink of choice with a tres leches for dessert. This is culinary excellence.

This colorful, casual cafe in the Hyde Park area has good guacamole, pork enchiladas and other Mexican fare. Its green mole is extremely hot...

St Petersburg Times- December 2003

ALGUSTO SHOWS GUSTO: In less than a year, restaurant owner Alberto Morillo has had to bust down a wall.

The owner of Algusto Tortilla and Salsa opened the stylish Mexican cafe at 912 W Kennedy Blvd. in January. A few weeks ago, he expanded into a storefront next door and increased his seating capacity from 40 to 85.

"The response from the neighborhood has been great," said Morillo, who stated his desire to be part of the gradual renaissance of the Kennedy corridor when he first opened.

With additional seats come additions to the menu. They include Algusto beef (mushrooms, spinach, cheese, green mole rolled in top sirloin), pozole soup (tomatito sauce, meatballs, corn, cilantro) and the pan-Latin staple tres leches cake.
